What would the Caribbean look like if creativity led the region?
Creativity is now the third most needed job skill in the world, preceded only by the ability to solve complex problems and critical thinking. Contexture is a three-part project that weaves together a central story; the future is creative.
Statement
Globally we are entering a drastically new period of human existence. There has never been a better time for the Caribbean to actively participate in the creation of its future. As the literal crossroads of the world, it’s important that the region and the diverse people that inhabit it, find new ways to capitalize on their talents beyond the limitations of tourism. It is time to create a new mirror image.
What if creativity became the largest natural resource in the Caribbean? What if creative output was truly valued in the marketplace? What if Caribbean people become the next wave of innovators? This research project explores these questions by way of inclusive design, critical theory and speculative design. It is centered in Barbados and examines three core areas essential for achieving a creative economy: education, cultural identity and imagination.
Contexture is a series, each part is complete in itself but connected to the rest. There are three ways to navigate this experience: for the future, towards the future and from the future.
